Client Management
Mobile App Development, October 2022
2 weeks | UX Designer & Researcher
Overview
For the Google UX Design course, the challenge was to create a client management mobile app for an electrician.
THE PROBLEM
The problem is that an electrical contractor wanted to track client information in an easy mobile app to build positive business relationships.
THE SOLUTION
A simple app was created that allowed users to review client information and make notes about projects. Users can easily search information to help their business grow.
Research
USER RESEARCH
To learn more about the users, I did a short interview with various people who would benefit from this client management app in the electrical field. I also created empathy maps to understand the different users better.
PERSONA
Andre is a small business owner who needs to organize his client information because he wants to build positive relationships with clients and grow his business.
USER JOURNEY MAP
Mapping Andre’s user journey showed that an app to manage client information would improve communication with employees and clients.
Ideation
WIREFRAMES
The goal of this wireframe was to create a homepage for the client management app. The homepage includes a search bar, schedule, client information page link, and project link. There is multiple navigation points to easily access various parts of the app quickly.
Testing
LOW-FIDELITY PROTOTYPE
The low-fidelity prototype shows how a user can search for a client and then add a note to their client page.
USABILITY STUDY
The usability study was conducted with five participants that all connected to contractor industries. Each study was moderated with three activity prompts directing users to find clients, create client notes, and sharing overall impressions of the app.
Improve
MOCKUPS
During the usability study, I found that users wanted a way to look at the whole client list and also add clients easily from the client information page. These features were added in the mockup.
HIGH-FIDELITY PROTOTYPE
The high-fidelity prototype created in Figma shows how a user can search for a client and then add a note to their client page. This prototype could be used in a usability study with various users.
Reflection
NEXT STEPS
-
Add additional areas where voice accessibility could be used so that users with visual impairments or users on the go can easily interact with the app without inputting text alone.
-
Include several ways that users could review, edit, adjust, and share client notes so it is easier to get client information in multiple ways.
-
After adding a few additional features, it would be helpful to run one more usability test on the new client note features before launching the app to users.
“This app is extremely helpful to have include client information in one place. I could see myself using something like this to keep track of client information so I can build positive business relationships.”
- Jacob, Usability study participant
